"Twin Cities Forum" debuted in the form of "cloud communication"——

Continuous exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait "the green mountains cannot be covered"

The Shanghai and Taipei "Twin Cities Forum" debuted on July 22. The mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng and the mayor of Taipei Ke Wenzhe held video conferences at the Shanghai International Convention Center and the Regent Hotel in Taipei. Some Taiwanese media commented that this is a landmark exchange event between the two sides of the strait since the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and continues to build a bridge for cross-strait city exchanges. Despite the various obstacles created by the DPP authorities, in the context of cross-strait tensions, the "Twin Cities Forum" has left a window for mutual exchanges, which is commendable.

  "Cloud Exchange"

Recently, due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and the deliberate suppression and restriction of the DPP authorities, the traffic between the two sides of the strait has been restricted to some extent, but the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the strait have not been interrupted by the epidemic. Thanks to the development of the Internet, cross-strait exchanges are also advancing with the times, completed in the "cloud", and the atmosphere is also warm.

The 10th Cross-Strait University Culture and Creativity Forum, initiated by Huaqiao University and co-hosted by both sides of the Taiwan Strait, was held online in mid-July. Longxi Township, Qingyuan County, Zhejiang, and Renai Township, Nantou County, Taiwan have recently jointly launched a "cloud" exchange activity. Tea farmers on both sides of the strait exchanged many problems in tea field management and tea frying. Prior to this, the online cultural exchange activities of Emperor Yandi Shennong on both sides of the Taiwan Strait were held at the same time at the Yandi Mausoleum in Yanling County, Hunan and part of the Shennong Palace Temple of the Association of Chinese Emperor Shennong in Taiwan. Behind the successful littering of the giant panda donated to Taiwan, "Yuanyuan", is also a credit for the 24-hour "cloud exchange" of scientific researchers on both sides of the strait.

There are many similar activities from economics, scientific research, environmental protection, academics, education to youth exchanges. The "Twin Cities Forum" was held in this "cloud exchange" boom. Now that the forum is entering its tenth year, face-to-face communication in accordance with the traditional thinking, this year, there are practical difficulties and worries about interruption. However, the consensus between Taipei and Shanghai is that communication should not be interrupted, so the "Twin Cities Forum" appeared in an innovative way of "cloud communication". Ke Wenzhe said that such a process also demonstrates the "goodwill and determination to continue to communicate with each other."

Communication is a matter of mutual benefit. At this forum, Taipei and Shanghai shared their own experience in promoting digitalization and remote work of civil servants during the epidemic, and through exchanges in response to changes in the economic model and countermeasures in the post-epidemic era, they will move forward together. Wang Zhibing, a member of the Taipei City Council of the Chinese Kuomintang, emphasized that Shanghai also has many life technologies for us to learn from. Shanghai is the closest international city to Taipei, and exchanges cannot afford to be near and far.

 The sourness of the DPP

In addition to the innovative way of "cloud communication", another major aspect of the "Two Cities Forum" is the subtle attitude of the DPP authorities.

Ke Wenzhe mentioned recently that "The Twin Cities Forum is the only official communication platform between the two sides of the strait." However, the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan retorted and pointed out that "The Twin Cities Forum is a communication platform between cities on both sides of the strait, but it is not the only official communication platform between the two sides of the strait." The Taipei City Councillors of the party made a sour analysis. The forum was designed to win over blue and light blue supporters. It has a strong political purpose.

It is not difficult to guess what the DPP authorities thought about "Wu Dalang opening a shop". On the one hand, I don’t want Ke Wenzhe and Taipei City to make the forum into trouble, showing the positive value of cross-strait exchanges, so that the "hed to China" propaganda will be broken. But no others are allowed to intervene, which is evident in its overbearing and arrogant.

The practice of the people of insight on the island is in stark contrast to the actions of the green camp, which mixed sand, stumbled and even stepped on the brakes.

Looking back at the new crown pneumonia epidemic at the beginning of the year, Su Zhenchang, the head of Taiwan's administrative agency, announced on January 24 that the export of masks to the mainland was prohibited. The authorities made all kinds of difficulties for Taiwanese businessmen on the mainland, the children of land companions known as "Xiao Ming," and the students studying in Taiwan. The remote-control green cyber army seized the position of public opinion and spread the atmosphere of "hatred". in. The recent "Hanguang" exercises and military purchases have also increased cross-strait hostility. It's clear at a glance who is paving the way for cross-strait exchanges and who is dismantling bridges for cross-strait exchanges.

Ke Wenzhe pointedly said a few days ago that the two sides of the strait still have to maintain a communication channel. The real goal of the forum is "not to make the other party feel desperate. The other party feels that you have no opportunity to communicate." His attitude in handling cross-strait affairs is "pragmatic." So far, he still believes that cross-strait exchanges are better than cessation, cooperation is better than confrontation, and family is better than family.

I don’t know if this "three good" motto can be heard by the DPP authorities?

The echo of the two mayors

Should the two sides of the strait continue and in-depth exchanges? The eyes of the people of Taiwan are sharp. Some people on the island believe that the "Twin Cities Forum" will definitely have a butterfly effect on cross-strait relations, and the two sides of the strait will surely return to normal and continuous and in-depth exchanges.

This kind of communication is a communication that breaks through barriers. Although some green camp politicians are clamoring, they believe that the vast majority of ordinary people in Taiwan do not support "Taiwan independence." Peace is still the general trend in the development of cross-strait relations. Therefore, setting up various man-made obstacles to cross-strait exchanges can only be a stupid way of blocking a car with a man's arm.

This exchange is a continuous and in-depth exchange. For example, "cloud communication" has the advantages of innovation, but it also has shortcomings as a stopgap measure affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic. The real communication between people can be chattering, such as how good the weather is in Taipei today, how is the weather in Shanghai, etc. These seemingly informal topics can actually promote personnel exchanges.

In view of this, the opening ceremony of the Fourth Cross-Strait Zhongshan Forum recently held in Guangdong adopted a two-tier model of on-site + cloud forum. I believe that with the continuous victory in the fight against the epidemic, cross-strait exchanges will also return to a face-to-face mode from screen-to-screen. After the tea farmers in Longxi Township and Ren'ai Township shared their experiences in the "cloud", they clearly stated that they hoped that their counterparts on the island could come to Qingyuan next year for field trips and deepen further cooperation between tea farmers in the two places.

In his speech at the "Two Cities Forum", Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng said that although the epidemic prevented each other from facing each other, it could not stop the heart to heart. In the future, he will continue to uphold the "cross-strait family relationship", build more consensus, and seek more benefits for people on both sides of the strait. Ke Wenzhe echoed and emphasized that the world after the epidemic may be different, but the continuous exchange and cooperation between Taipei and Shanghai will not change. The Taipei-Shanghai Twin Cities Forum will continue to work together for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

The pursuit of peaceful development across the strait is the common aspiration of the people on both sides of the strait. The continuous and in-depth exchanges between the two sides of the strait are surging rivers that "green mountains cannot cover, after all, they flow eastward."
