China News Service, Toronto, July 23 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) Canadian Defense Chief of Staff Jonathan Vance (Jonathan Vance) confirmed on July 23 that he will step down in the next few months.

  As the highest military commander, General Vance, who has served for 39 years, said in an open letter to all Canadian soldiers that his plan to step down has been approved by the Secretary of Defense, Prime Minister and Governor. He said that the government will decide on the candidate for the new chief of defense staff and the handover time.

  Vance was appointed Chief of Defense Staff in July 2015 under the appointment of Prime Minister Harper. He is also Canada's longest-serving chief of defense staff.

  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised Vance's work in a statement and stated that he has initiated the personnel procedures for the search for the next Chief of Defense Staff.
