At half past one on Saturday night, SOS Alarm received a call, according to Smålands Dagblad, that someone was setting fire to a stairwell in Nässjö.

- It had been lit with a lighter on a front door as you describe it to me. Then it happened and ended, it was not ongoing, says press spokesperson Björn Öberg.

Waited for two hours

Although the witness was promised that the police would come, they were still not there after two hours, the newspaper writes. On Saturday afternoon, however, he noticed smoke and there was a large influx at the apartment with rescue services, police and ambulance.

The fire could be limited to an apartment and no one should have to be taken to hospital, according to the police website. A preliminary investigation into arson was launched and the man, who is in his 30s, was arrested later on Saturday night on probable cause on suspicion of the crime.
