  • Surprises: The reason for the strange presence of Jaime de Marichalar in an award ceremony for research

During his marriage to the Infanta Elena and when he separated from the eldest daughter of the Kings Juan Carlos and Sofía, Jaime de Marichalar has kept absolute discretion about the Royal Family, although we know that he has an excellent relationship with the current Kings and affectionate treatment and frequent with Doña Sofía, the grandmother of her children.

But the ex-husband of Infanta Elena has broken his habitual silence to pronounce on King Don Juan Carlos, center these days of all the news about his alleged accounts in tax havens, collection of illegal commissions and even his possible departure from Spain to save Felipe VI from a bad image of the Crown.

Jaime de Marichalar pronounces himself loud and clear in favor of King Emeritus in the following terms, and a document to which LOC has had access:

"I am with HM King Juan Carlos I.

For everything he did in our transition, he inherited an almost absolute monarchy and gave up all his powers, building a democracy out of nothing, something unprecedented in the world.

Because he brought down a coup.

Because he has been an extraordinary ambassador of our country, having known how to strengthen ties with Latin America and attract investment to our companies. And because when he had to leave, he knew how to give up the witness. Is it really that the only one who will come out in your defense is Felipe González ? Where are all the entrepreneurs who have benefited so much from your diplomacy? And the politicians who wanted so much to have their picture taken with him? And all those journalists who said he was the best king we had ever had? If you think like me that JCI was, with its lights and shadows, a great king, publish it. Defend the monarchy with the same momentum with which the detractors of it want to bring it down. Because if you don't, we will have a Pedro Sánchez or a pigtail as head of state instead of Felipe VI (who do you prefer?). #vivaelrey #espanaesunamonarquia #reyesdeespana #reyjuancarlos #reyfelipe #vivaespana #espana ".

The Marichalar family has always been an enthusiastic defender of the monarchy; the great-grandfather of Felipe and Victoria de Marcihalar, Luis Marichalar and Montreal, viscount of Eza, was appointed Minister of War and Development, during the reign of Alfonso XIII.

On the recent visit of Kings Felipe and Letizia to Soria , where the Marichalar have their family residence, a 12th century palace, Ignacio de Marichalar hoisted a banner with the passage of the Kings reading "Long live the king".
