Romania's Simona Halep, world number 2, announced her participation in the WTA clay court tournament in Prague on Wednesday, August 10-16, in a video posted to the organizer's Twitter account.
"Hi everyone, I can't wait to take part in the tournament in the beautiful city of Prague, see you in August," said Halep, double Grand Slam winner at Roland Garros in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019 .
The Romanian had confirmed in mid-July that she would play the Palermo tournament in early August, also played on clay, which will mark the return of the WTA circuit.
Halep's participation in these two clay court tournaments reinforces doubts about his presence at the US Open at the end of August, which is played on hard court moreover.
Halep had been reluctant to participate in this Grand Slam tournament, due to restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The resumption of the WTA Tour, suspended since March 8, is scheduled for August 3 with the tournament in Palermo.
The WTA has added two new events to the schedule initially scheduled: the Prague tournament and the Kentucky tournament, August 10-17.
