Around midnight on January 3, the police received an alarm about a car driving wobbly and unsafe on highway 56 between Västerås and Sala. The police patrol stopped the car that was driving at about 50 kilometers per hour on a 70-lane road and the driver was taken to a police station. After sampling, the answers showed that the man had 3.30 per mille in his blood. Which is 3.10 per mille more than 0.2 which is the limit for drunk driving.

Push home

According to the man, who is 45 years old, he does not drink alcohol that often. But during the New Year's weekend, he drank a lot because the children were not home.

The man states that he would drive a party home from Västerås to Sala and that he did not feel affected but just tired. The man claims that he is estimated to have drunk four strong beers with a strength of 5.2 percent and wine with the food.

Aggravated drunken driving

The man was already sentenced in 2011 for aggravated drunk driving to one month in prison. This time he was sentenced to three months in prison, a verdict he appealed to the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal now rules that the judgment shall apply.

As the man had 3.30 per mille in his blood and as the crime entailed risks to road safety, the crime is considered serious.

No one was injured.
