It is now possible to give away your old mobile phone by sending it, for recycling or reuse, in a postage-paid envelope, the eco-organization ecosystem announced on Monday.

To mark the launch of this long-term solidarity initiative, one hundred reconditioned mobiles will be offered "to the most deprived" in each of the 35 stopover cities of the Tour de France 2020, via social action centers and the Emmaüs network.

Several tens of millions of unused laptops sleep in the drawers of the French (between 50 and 113 million, according to surveys). A reluctance to part with them, which is explained in particular by their personal content, we say at ecosystem.

To facilitate collection, individuals can now order a prepaid envelope, or print a prepaid label to stick on an envelope, all free of charge from the jedonnemontelephone.fr website.

The mobile phone then arrives in Deux-Sèvres, in a repackaging company, the "Ateliers du bocage", a collective interest company member of Emmaus, where personal data is first erased, insists ecosystem, which evokes "a trusted solution ".

If its condition allows, it is then reconditioned, to be sold in Emmaüs stores, or, in 83% of cases, rerouted for pollution control and recycling.

During the health crisis, many solidarity associations were in demand for reconditioned mobiles, notes the same source.

In addition to the postage-paid envelope, individuals can still deposit their old mobiles in recycling centers (where the amount of flow prevents repackaging), or in collection furniture arranged in particular in certain telephone shops.

Beyond laptops, ecosystem manages the end of life of electrical and electronic devices. The month of June saw a record collection of 62,000 tonnes of this equipment, recovered after three months of confinement.
