“Today, the State Department is imposing sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic within the Russian Federation,” TASS quoted the order of the State Department.

It is noted that "sanctions are imposed because of Kadyrov’s involvement in serious human rights violations in the Chechen Republic."

The State Department’s statement states that the State Department “condemned the threats of violence by the head of the Russian Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, against two journalists in connection with their coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Earlier it was reported that the Chechen coronavirus operational headquarters decided to temporarily ban tourists and guests from entering the republic in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the republic.
