The idea of the Arabs' arrival in Mars is just around the corner from verification, with the launch of the hexagonal probe towards the Red Planet, to make its journey on Mars coinciding with the UAE celebrations of its golden jubilee and the passage of 50 years since the declaration of the union in 1971.
The UAE Space Agency, which was established by a federal decree in 2014, is responsible for the overall supervision of the project, while the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) has taken over the design, development and implementation stages of sending the probe to space, to provide the first comprehensive study on the climate of Mars and its different layers of atmosphere when it reaches The Red Planet beginning in 2021, coinciding with the celebration of the country's golden jubilee (the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the United Arab Emirates).
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum called on all the people of the Arab world to participate in defining a name for the “probe”, and thousands interacted with this invitation, and they presented many proposed names, so that in May 2015, His Highness would announce the name that was His choice of the Mars probe, which represents the first Arab and Islamic project to reach the Red Planet.
His Highness said: «The Emirates Project for Mars is a message of hope for Arab youth, and there is no future, achievement or life without hope. His Highness also affirmed, “The Mars project is a strategic investment in man, and investing in man is a profitable investment, and investing in science and knowledge will see its result for many generations to come, God willing.”
A team of UAE youth, numbering more than 200 young men and women, took charge of planning and designing to implement the probe, and the team members relied on their skills and diligence to acquire all knowledge related to space exploration sciences and applied them with their hands from A to Z, as 600 mechanical parts were manufactured from it in the country Also, none of the main technologies on which the project is based were imported, but are designed, manufactured and assembled locally at the hands of local expertise and capabilities. As for the technical knowledge required for that, it was developed locally, through the training of the project team of Emirati youth, through strategic partnerships With scientific academic bodies, instead of supplying technologies from international agencies and companies specialized in the field of space.
