Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser of America tied for the third best performance in history on Saturday with a throw of 22.91 m at a regional athletics meeting in Marietta, Georgia, according to World Athletics website.

Engaged in his second competition of the year, Crouser was visibly in great shape. He chained four world-class jets at 22.15 m, then 22.24 m in the third, 22.73 m in the fifth and finally 22.91 m in the last test.

This new brand is one centimeter better than its old personal record (22.90 m) established last year at the Doha Worlds. That day, he had to settle for second place in the toughest weight competition in history.

The 27-year-old Crouser is now in third place in the world hierarchy of all time, tied with American Joe Kovacs last year in Doha and Italian Alessandro Andrei in 1987. more ahead of him than his fellow world record holder, Randy Barnes (23.12 m in 1990), and the German Ulf Timmermann (23.06 m in 1988).

Crouser had started its 2020 season on July 11 with a 21.87 m jet, in this same Marietta stadium, during the opening of the American Federation Summer Series.
