A 61-year-old hiker from Vicenza died today after having fallen for a hundred meters along the Ferrata del Vajo Scuro, on Mount Carega, in the municipality of Recoaro Terme (Vicenza). The alarm was raised in the morning by another hiker who, after finding a backpack, then came across the man's body.

After the request to 112, a team from the Alpine Rescue of Recoaro-Valdagno was alerted, who went to the La Gazza refuge, where the helicopter of Verona Emergenza boarded two rescuers in support of the operations. The doctor and another health care professional, who landed on the spot, could not but verify the death of the 61-year-old.

The man was a resident of Valdagno (Vicenza). According to a first reconstruction, it is possible that the sixty year old decided to 'attack' the difficult variant of the itinerary without wearing the safety harness and the via ferrata kit. A moment of carelessness, or tiredness, may have contributed to making him lose his grip in one of the most difficult passages, making him fall into the void.
