Sources of the island confirmed that dozens of residents of the "shelter of fishermen" west of Alexandria were wounded and suffocated, as security forces used tear gas to disperse a demonstration in protest against a decision to demolish homes in the area under the pretext of developing slums.

The sources also confirmed the arrest of a number of the people of the area while the security forces broke up the demonstration that took place this afternoon.

The protesters chanted slogans demanding that their homes not be demolished, and they held banners affirming the legitimacy of their demands.

Among the chants chanted by the demonstrators are "peaceful" and "not enough", and this protest comes while the Egyptian government is implementing a plan that says that the aim is to remove the slums and purify them in several governorates, and the authorities are talking about a major project to build thousands of housing units in the area that includes the shelter of the fishermen.
