  • Many overflows marked July 14 in the metropolis of Lyon.
  • The departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) of the Rhône indicates this Friday that an 18-year-old Villeurbanne was arrested on the night of Wednesday.
  • Implicated according to the police in "an ambush" targeting the firefighters, this one will be judged in immediate appearance this Friday.

The night of tensions experienced for July 14 in different municipalities of the metropolis of Lyon gives rise to several surveys. One of them, after scuffles that took place at 2 am Wednesday in Villleurbanne, led to the arrest of an 18-year-old young man. With 16 criminal records, he is suspected of aggravated willful violence with a gun and in a meeting.

He would have launched fireworks in the direction of the firefighters working on vehicle fires in the Grand-Clément district in Villeurbanne. The latter were indeed victims of projectile throwing (stones, mortars, fireworks, barriers) from a group, as well as the theft of equipment in one of their vehicles.

Survey attempts to identify other participants

"The firefighters managed to get out of the ambush thanks to the intervention of the municipal police and no injuries were reported," said this Friday the departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) of the Rhône. Suspected of being part of this group, the 18-year-old Villeurbannais was immediately arrested by the municipal police in a nearby street. Placed in police custody and heard by the Departmental Security, he, according to the DDSP, admitted to having launched fireworks, but "without targeting the firefighters".

His statements would be contradicted by the elements collected via video surveillance. He was presented to the prosecution on Thursday and will be tried this Friday in immediate appearance. Pending this judgment, the young man was imprisoned in the Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône) remand center. The investigation continues to try to identify other participants in the violence.
