French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, met his Iraqi counterpart, Fouad Hussein, today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad, and discussed the relations between the two countries, the war against the Islamic State, confronting the Corona virus and the economic crisis in Iraq.

During his visit, Ludrian will meet with Iraqi President Barham Salih, Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi; To discuss regional security issues, bilateral relations, and investments.

After the meeting, the Iraqi Foreign Minister affirmed that Ludryan's visit to Baghdad is important to discuss the challenges facing Iraq due to the Corona pandemic and the war against the Islamic State.

During a joint press conference with the minister, Hussein said that Iraq always seeks to develop relations with France and support the activity of French companies, economic relations, military cooperation and the great role of France, within the framework of the international coalition in the fight against Islamic State.

He stressed that ISIS is still a threat present in Iraq, and for this reason cooperation with France in fighting it still exists, indicating that he discussed with his French counterpart prisoners of ISIS in Iraq and how to deal with them now and in the future, and the support of French organizations for the displaced in Iraq, the regional situation and tensions In the area.

In his turn, the French minister affirmed his country's support for Iraq in all political, health and security fields, and in the war against the organization of the state within the framework of the international coalition and respect for the sovereignty of Iraq.

He said, "The realization of Iraq’s sovereignty is something that cannot be compromised, and we are working to restore the role of Iraq to balance in the Middle East, and we respect popular demands in supporting respect for the sovereignty of Iraq."
