The Islamologist Tariq Ramadan. - UGO AMEZ / SIPA

"He was heard in his version. Tariq Ramadan's lawyers left the Paris court with a smile on their faces this Thursday noon. Summoned by Swiss justice, the Muslim preacher escaped an indictment for "rape" and "sexual coercion". Already indicted four times for similar facts on four complainants, the theologian spent the morning responding to the charges brought in a complaint filed in 2018 by Brigitte *, a Swiss woman who accuses her of having raped her, in 2008, in a hotel in Geneva.

“Summoned initially for an indictment, Tariq Ramadan was heard. At the end of his hearing, he escaped this indictment, "soberly detailed Nabila Asmane, one of his lawyers. Tariq Ramadan, 57, is accused in this case of raping and confining this Swiss woman in a hotel in Geneva. According to the complainant's version, they met during a signing session and then entered into a relationship.

Relations "agreed" according to him

Released in November 2018 after more than nine months in pretrial detention, the theologian is accused of rape by several young women who believe he was in his grip. After initially denying the facts, Tariq Ramadan finally admitted to having had relations with them while explaining that they were consented. In his book Duty of Truth , he claims to be the target of judicial harassment because of his religion.

If this case concerns the Swiss justice, it was heard in Paris because of the heavy judicial control which prohibits him, from now on, to leave France.
