- We have seen that the perceived insecurity in some places in Växjö is too great and we believe that security hosts can complement the work of the police, says Anna Tenje (M), chairman of the municipal board.

Concerns in three parts of the state

SVT Nyheter Småland has previously reported that women on campus in Växjö are worried about being assaulted outdoors in the evenings, something that emerged in the latest safety survey from Växjö municipality.

The security hosts will primarily be on campus, in the urban area of Teleborg and in Växjö center. The municipality hopes that through their presence they will contribute to reduced anxiety.

- In the afternoons in the city, a lot of youth gangs gather and they spread anxiety, so we see that the center is a place where we must increase security for our Växjö residents, says Anna Tenje (M).

Less authority than security guards

According to Tenje, the security guards will have greater powers than guards, who have no special powers, but less powers than security guards, who in some cases can take care of people.

- It's something in between. They will act as a link between the municipal residents and the police, when it comes to summoning, identifying and preventing riots, but they will not be able to take anyone into custody.
