According to Cecilia Marklund, who is head of the study administration at Uppsala University, the number of cheaters has increased slightly every year for the past five years.

- I can not speculate on why it has been so. So it would probably have been a small increase this year as well, but not such a big one.

New methods

When it comes to essays, universities have long been able to use the plagiarism control tool Urkund to see if a student has plagiarized a text. But when it comes to exams, it's harder. One of the methods already used to detect cheating is to make the samples very similar to each other, but with slightly different starting values. When students then submit the same answers to different questions, they receive special attention.

In the clip above, you can hear Cecilia Marklund tell more about what measures the university is planning to stop the cheating.
