Mayors, territorial leaders, regional presidents, deputies, national heavyweights ... various PP officials agree that Pablo Casado should reinforce the party's national leadership with the entry of moderate profiles and with management and / or seniority status. The vast majority of popular leaders consulted by EL MUNDO point out, well above the rest, two names: former President of Congress Ana Pastor and the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

They are the two profiles that jump from mouth to mouth in the PP for their good role during the hardest days of the coronavirus pandemic. After Alberto Núñez Feijóo achieved his fourth absolute majority and in view of the lack of strength of the Basque PP, the moderate sector has asked Casado to Galician the PP. In Genoa they take note and assure that the Galician model is the one they want to "implant".

In fact, this Wednesday they will turn the National Executive Committee into a celebration of the victory of the Baron of Barons in the Galician elections. It happens that some of the regional presidents who will be present at the conclave believe, precisely, that Genoa has a part of responsibility for the bad Basque result: "There are two ways of doing things: how they have been done in Galicia and how they have been done in the Basque Country, and it is a strategic issue, beyond moderation ", sums up a high popular position .

In this commitment to the "moderate tone", the truth is that Pastor is the most singled out - always in private - by the PP leaders to give a centrist push to the Casado project. The former minister is already acting as the party's spokesperson in the Commission for the Reconstruction of Congress, in which she is close to closing two agreements with the PSOE. "A Casado, Pastor can provide solvency," says a national leader. "Casado has to put experience into his team and think of a two-year project with ideas and a school profile," they say in a barony.

The mayor of Madrid

Pastor is already acting as a person on the Casado team, to some extent. Hence, the bet made by several PP heavyweights for Almeida is more worthy of attention. The mayor of the capital has received congratulations for his management of the Covid-19 crisis.

From his party, from the right-wing electorate - the voters of Ciudadanos and Vox give him a better mark than their respective leaders - and, also, from the political and media left. His figure has won many integers in the game. And he enjoys the sympathy of the party president, who was the one who appointed him.

"It is on the crest of the wave and is related to us," sums up a leader close to Casado. "There is a lack of voices that give the party political nuances, as before, with [Mariano] Rajoy. And to reinforce different communication profiles," proposes another voice related to Casado.

"Almeida has the profile of a prudent and sensible politician who knows how to ask for forgiveness and is not doctrinal: he thinks of big politics," argues a regional PP president. "It has to be yes or yes" in the directive, he adds. Sources from the mayor's environment do not cite him but they do stress that Casado must extend his directive with "someone of weight".

The Madrid Secretary of Justice

The third most cited name among the leaders consulted is that of Enrique López . The regional government councilor for Isabel Díaz Ayuso has won rewards from her position as party's secretary of Justice. The praises for its performance are unanimous, for knowledge of the matter, for its high level of dialogue with its sector and for "solidity". There are already voices that propose raising it to number two of the Executive of the Community of Madrid. López has gained ascendancy before the general secretary, Teodoro García Egea, as well as the Andalusian presidential adviser, Elías Bendodo .

Precisely, an interlocution like the one that López has is what is missed in the economic field. The Deputy Secretary of the PP Sector, Elvira Rodríguez , is highly valued among her own for her work as a pure manager - "like [Cristóbal] Montoro, but a liberal one" -. However, there are several leaders consulted who ask for reinforcement. And, although there is no consensus on the name, at least three cite Fátima Báñez as the "ideal" economic voice of the party.

The former Minister of Employment abandoned politics and works at the CEOE. "And now CEOE is making the PP's speech ... but agreeing with the Government," they malice in Moncloa.
