“We are disappointed that against the background of an overwhelming wave of desecration and demolition of monuments to historical figures during mass protests in the USA, the sculpture to the chief ruler of Russian settlements in North America, established in 1989, still fell under the decision to dismantle,” the Russian ambassador said USA Anatoly Antonov.

He emphasized that Baranov’s creative role in Alaska and California is obvious.

Earlier, Sitka Mayor Gary Paxton promised that the monument to Baranov will be transferred to the museum in a "respectful" manner.

On July 14, the Sitka City Council adopted a resolution on the transfer of the monument from the city center to the museum.
