We now know a little more about the ecological aspect of Joe Biden's program. The Democratic presidential candidate for the United States next November promised Tuesday to invest massively in renewable energies. According to him, it is a sector that will mobilize "millions of jobs" in the United States. He therefore has the ambition to achieve clean electricity production in just 15 years.

"Hoax" versus "jobs"

"We are going to make historic investments," assured the Democratic candidate, who claims to be the champion of the fight against climate change against Donald Trump to win in the November 3 election. When the current White House tenant "thinks of climate change, the only word he thinks of is a hoax." When I think of climate change, I think of jobs. Well-paid union jobs that will put Americans to work, ”said Joe Biden in his home town of Wilmington, Delaware.

This climate plan includes a program to build low-energy housing, incentives to purchase electric vehicles made in the United States, or the transition of the government fleet to electric vehicles. "These investments are win-win for this country, creating jobs, reducing energy costs and protecting our climate," he promised. According to him, "transforming the American electricity sector to produce electricity without carbon pollution (...) will be the biggest provider of job creation and economic competitiveness in the 21st century".

Biden promises return to Paris Agreement

The former vice-president has again promised the return of the United States to the Paris Climate Agreement, from which Donald Trump withdrew in 2017, with the aim of ending carbon emissions from by 2050. In total, public investment will amount to $ 2,000 billion over four years, according to the candidate's campaign documents.

With this ambitious plan, more aggressive than his program presented in the Democratic primaries, the centrist candidate hopes to satisfy the progressive wing of the party, which he needs to win the presidential election. He also attacked President Trump, who relies on fossil fuels like oil.

Last week, Joe Biden unveiled a gigantic $ 700 billion plan to revive the American economy after the coronavirus crisis. But if he leads national polls, Joe Biden is lagging behind in the economic sector where Donald Trump is deemed more suitable by voters.
