In 2025, according to the will of the government, the entire territory must be connected to optical fiber for connection to the Internet. An objective still far from being achieved, especially in small towns, such as in Boos, in Seine-Maritime, where Europe 1 went to meet residents sometimes resigned.

REPORTAGE

Are the government's commitments for the deployment of fiber optics sustainable? In 2025, fiber must be generalized throughout the territory. For medium-sized cities, the operators Orange and SFR have promised to connect them by the end of the year. However, these objectives are still far from being met. Many areas are still struggling to modernize, especially in small towns. Example in Boos, in Seine-Maritime.

"When you put two computers at the same time, frankly it row as not possible. TV is the same thing," plague Nathalie. This resident has been trying to get fiber for over a year! Its driveway is littered with cut cables and sheaths that protrude from the ground. But for everything to work, the fiber must pass from the road to its housing. However, his house was built over 20 years ago and the facilities are no longer suitable.

The technicians have already come three times, in vain. "There is still a cladding problem that was blocked," laments Nathalie. "We still have work to do, which is to be done, with a small trench to pass the sheath. My husband was almost ready to dig. It's super long," she sighs.

"We said 'it's not worth it'"

Nathalie is not alone in her case. In a house of the same period, the punishment is the same for its neighbors stuck in the works. So a few meters away Anaëlle and her family made another decision, much more radical: they simply refused the fiber. "It was the steps that prevented us because we said 'it's not worth it'. Suddenly, we amplified the Wifi because our house is quite large," says the young woman.

A makeshift solution therefore, pending technical and financial means to modernize these infrastructures. A headache for the inhabitants but also for the operators, like Orange or SFR, who recognize a delay in their commitments, delay aggravated by the coronavirus.
