As the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell noted, this step limits the will of Belarusians and undermines the democratic elections.

“The exclusion of candidates limits the opportunity for the Belarusian people to express their will, and also undermines the general democratic nature of the elections. By denying registration to Viktor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo, the Belarusian authorities were unable to provide meaningful political competition, ”he said.

Earlier, the CEC of Belarus registered five candidates for the presidential election.

At the same time, the CEC refused to register some candidates, in particular, the former head of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko.
