One woman died, three people were seriously injured and one person was slightly injured after the collision between two cars at Piteå's northern entrance, near Grisberget.

There were four people, two adults and two children in a car and a woman, suspected of drunk driving and aggravated illegal driving, in the other.

Violation of the duty to give way

According to the police investigation, it was the driver of the so-called family car who caused the accident by violating the duty to give way and was then hit at high speed by the other driver.

Everyone involved was taken to hospital, but the man in the family car is slightly injured and can be talked to.

- We will contact him today or tomorrow to hear from him about the traffic accident, says Piteå Police's preliminary investigation leader Ola Lundström.

Drunk but not to blame

But the drunk driver without a driving license will probably not be prosecuted for causing a traffic accident.

- Today she is suspected of drunk driving and gross illegal driving and I do not think there will be any more charges. It is the person who has died who broke the traffic rules so that the accident occurred, says Ola Lundström and continues:

- But the other driver has also broken the traffic rules, so this is a difficult issue, both legally and emotionally. Therefore, I will contact a prosecutor to get an answer from the world of law, says Ola Lundström.
