Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has announced the application of artificial intelligence technologies to monitor the behavior of taxi drivers on their road trips, with the aim of identifying weaknesses in their professional performance while driving.

Khaled Al-Awadi, Director of Transportation Systems Department of Public Transport Corporation, said that the authority started applying artificial intelligence techniques to monitor the behavior of taxi drivers in cooperation with Akacus Technologies and the developer of the smart camera system in taxis in Dubai, with the aim of knowing the extent of drivers compliance with the regulations and regulations in place in the safe driving For both the driver and passenger.

He added that this technology is a proactive measure to know the driver's behavior, unlike the surveillance cameras installed in taxis, which are referred to in the event of complaints from passengers, as it is possible through artificial intelligence to know the driver's performance on the road in real time.

He explained that «monitoring helps us to alert the driver, direct him, or subject him to rehabilitation courses in case of repeated violations such as excessive speed, sudden parking or unnecessary use of brakes, etc., besides that artificial intelligence techniques enable us to know the real reasons that may drive the driver to unacceptable practices from Where to see the state of the road or the situations that lead sometimes to the commission of these violations ».

Al-Awadi explained that the accuracy of the images related to the driver's behaviors on the road provided by artificial intelligence, and then sent to the control center for analysis, reaches a rate of 99.92%, and that cooperation is being done with the company «Akakos» to raise this rate to 99.98%, and that work will be done to develop the alerts system A more comprehensive assessment of drivers' performance with increased AI activation.
