The number of cases of the Coronavirus around the world exceeded 13 million today, Monday, in a new milestone of the spread of the disease that has killed more than half a million people in seven months.

The number of infections has increased by a million cases in just five days since the eighth of July, and the World Health Organization stated that this number is three times the number of people infected with acute flu recorded annually.

The Coruna virus has resulted in more than 568,000 deaths so far, and is in the same range of deaths worldwide recorded as acute influenza.

According to Reuters, the spread of the virus in Latin America is accelerating more than others, and the Americans have recorded more than half of the world's infections and half of the deaths.

Today, Latin America has become the second most affected region in the world with the Covid-19 epidemic in terms of deaths, with more than 145,000 deaths officially registered, according to the French Press Agency census.

Health organization warns

The World Health Organization said today that the pandemic of the Coronavirus can only get worse if all countries do not adhere to basic health care measures.

"Let me be blunt in my candor ... too many countries are on the wrong path, and the virus is still the number one public enemy," General Director Tidros Adhanum Gebresos said during a virtual briefing from the organization's headquarters in Geneva.

Authorities in several countries decided to reimpose isolation measures, the majority of them at a local level, as in Catalonia, Spain, and the Philippine capital, Manila.

The Moroccan authorities also decided today to suspend public transport services, whether by road or rail, to and from Tangier, the far north of the country, to reduce the outbreak of the Corona virus. These measures follow a new focus for Corona in the city.

The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement that it had decided to tighten monitoring in order to urge citizens to stay with their homes and not go out except for the most urgent necessity, as Tangier recorded 2966 injuries, which constitutes one fifth of the total injuries in the Kingdom.

Israeli soldiers with stones

The Israeli army said in a written statement that 12,130 of its soldiers are in quarantine, and 568 Corona virus infections have been registered with the army since the beginning of the pandemic in February.

In Indonesia, the official Antara news agency reported today that President Goku Widodo said that the outbreak of the Coruna virus in the country is expected to peak in August and September, two to three months earlier than previously anticipated.

Widodo said he is urging his ministers to work harder to control the outbreak of the virus that has infected 76,981 people in the country as of Monday, and has killed 3,656 people, in the highest toll from East Asia outside China.

Two US bases in Japan
Because of Corona, the closure was imposed on two US military bases in Okinawa (southern Japan) after the high number of casualties in them, causing confusion in this island where the American presence is causing controversy.

Japanese government spokesman Yoshihide Suga announced Monday that 62 cases of Covid-19 epidemic had been detected in the past days among US forces present in Okinawa.

Most of these cases were counted at a Marine air base in Futenma, as well as at another US base, Camp Hansen, according to the Japanese official.
