Anne-Marie Liljenberg lives with her mother on the seventh floor of Silvergården and has now had to leave her apartment due to the fire. They had home insurance before, but resigned it because it became too expensive.

- What to say. We have no home insurance for it I have terminated. I totally regret it today. They called and asked if I wanted to renew it but I said I wanted to end it because it was too expensive, says Ann-Marie Liljenberg.

Emergency accommodation of social services

Without home insurance, they have no safety net to help them with the cost of hotel accommodation and possible damage to their belongings. Now they have been helped by the social services so they do not have to live on the street.

- Now we have received emergency housing from the social, it feels wonderful. We were in our apartment with the police to get some stuff. Our apartment seems to have done quite well, but our neighbor's apartment did not do well. It's not at all fun to think that we have no home insurance. It feels awful. Now we have home insurance, she says.

Compulsory with insurance

At present, home insurance is not mandatory, but these types of events open up the debate about a possible need for compulsory home insurance.

"For some, it's a purely financial issue, that you have chosen to prioritize that expense because you simply don't have room for it," says Carina Jording, Deputy Head of Administration for Individual and Family Social Services Landskrona.

Although Anne-Marie Liljenberg and her mother chose not to have insurance because they thought it was too expensive, they are positive to compulsory insurance.

- It would be great if it was mandatory with home insurance, because then you are sure that you will not end up in this seat. We have received help with emergency housing from the social and there we have to stay for a month before we can apply again to stay there. If we had not received social support we would have had to live on the street. Walk around and sleep on park benches, she says.
