• Live.Coronavirus Spain today, live breaking news | The Generalitat has bordered Lleida and seven other municipalities in Segrià since midnight

The increase in Covid-19 cases in Lleida and the Segrià region has caused the Generalitat to further restrict mobility in the area. According to the Procicat agreement, as of midnight, all exits and entrances to Lleida city, Alcarràs, Aitona, Seròs, Soses, La Granja d'Escarp, Massalcoreig, Torres de Segre and the decentralized municipal entities of Suchs and Raimat are prohibited, except for essential services. The decision does not affect motorways and motorways for vehicles with mobility originating and destination outside Segrià. The order lasts for 15 days.

The Generalitat has made this "pre-confinement" decision, as the Minister of Health, Alba Vergés, said, these municipalities after noticing an increase in cases in recent days and not being able to control the outbreaks that have appeared inside and outside the region. Among the measures, the Government prohibits in these areas meetings of more than 10 people, including weddings and religious services, suspends all cultural and sports activities, as well as closing gyms, swimming pools and nightlife areas.

In this sense, the representatives of the Segrià point out that the municipalities of the lower Segre must be perimeter, but not of the entire region. In addition, they point out that people who go to work or health centers may move, as well as those who use public transportation in the area. The Mossos d'Esquadra will carry out controls to perimeter these municipalities.

The mayor of Lleida, Miquel Pueyo, pointed out that the decision allows avoiding a total confinement of the city, each person at home. He also demanded from the Generalitat a shock plan that offers direct aid to hospitality entrepreneurs and merchants who have been affected. The President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, assured that the situation before Covid-19 "will be complicated, not today or tomorrow, but over the next few months" and added that the Govern "will take all the decisions that there are, always attending to the criteria of the experts and the scientists ".

The Mossos and the Lleida municipal police will control the use of the mandatory mask on the street as well as the gatherings of more than 10 people, since they are prohibited according to the Procicat agreement. Failure to comply could carry penalties. Summer camps are maintained, when monitors and students reside in the region, and only the usual group of coexistence can leave the house. Restaurants may only offer home delivery services.

Vergès said that the stores may be open but asked that "the appointment or prior notice" be used to control the capacity inside the premises. He noted that masks must be worn within each store. He also added that they are controlling the 33 nursing homes in the area. In addition, he indicated that they are looking for positives so that the reduction of social activity prevents contagion.

"Reducing cases reduces future positives," said the minister, who added that the decision was made after the area had 35% positives for Covid tests in the area when the usual rate in Catalonia is 5 or 10% on average.
