It is Destination Kalmar who, together with the Linnaeus University, will investigate what the effects will be of so many events failing this summer.

Interest is great and fourteen cities around the country will do the same.

- You can do this now when there are almost no events, says Hans Wessblad, university lecturer and philosophy doctor at Linnaeus University.

In the study, both visitors and locals should be able to answer questions in a survey.

- For example, we want to know what they feel about a city like Kalmar when there are no events, says Stefan Johnson, tourism manager in Kalmar.

Statistics will be collected from the hospitality industry and several organizers will be interviewed in depth. Political decisions made during the spring will also be included in the study.

To be compared with previous years

- We will measure how the hospitality industry feels one summer when there are no events. How is tourism going then, what is it that travels to the city anyway and why they travel here, says Hans Wessblad.

The result can be compared with previous years and years to come.

It is usually difficult to see the effect of an event. Nowadays, many take for granted that something always happens in the tourist cities.

The results of the study will be presented in late autumn.
