Many municipalities have given up organizing the traditional fireworks on July 14 to avoid rallies and limit the spread of the coronavirus. Consequence: the fireworks find themselves without work, especially in Alsace.

REPORTAGE

Due to the coronavirus health crisis, many communities have canceled the July 14 festivities. Bordeaux, Toulouse and Strasbourg, for example, have given up organizing their fireworks. The fireworks then saw their activities drop. Last year, Pyragric, the industry leader in Alsace, organized between 100 and 150 fireworks at this time of the year. This year, only five pyrotechnic shows are on the program on July 13 and 14.

Avoid gatherings

"Usually, at that time, the company looks like an anthill and we have already been in delivery for three weeks. There, we will only be a handful of fireworks," says one of the employees of the company Pyragric from Europe 1. For the rare towns in Alsace that have planned to fire, the fireworks artist had to be imaginative to find the right shooting site and use a drone to ensure that the show be visible from all houses and gardens, thus avoiding gatherings.
