On Friday, parents of the missing students had a private meeting with President López Obrador, where they were updated on the latest developments in the investigation.

When the president came to power 19 months ago, one of his first steps was to establish a truth commission to investigate what really happened. The removal of the teacher students has become a symbol of the fight against corruption and violence in Mexico.

Not found where the bodies are said to have been dumped

According to official information, the student teachers were abducted by corrupt police after clashes in the city of Iguala. They must then have been killed and burned by criminal gang members, and then dumped on the dump in Cocula.

Prosecutors are now questioning the official information, as the bone fragments from the identified 19-year-old were found just a mile from the site where the burned bodies were said to have been dumped.
