Rome13 January 2016 In 2015, fatal accidents began to increase again on Italian roads. The traffic police published the data on the accidents detected by the police and carabinieri during the past year. Fatal accidents recorded a + 2.5% (1,587, forty more than in 2014) and the victims also increased by + 1.3%, which in the period between June and September rose to +13.5 %, from 1730 two years ago to 1,752 in 2015.

Mortality among motorcyclists is alarming: 471 died in 2015, 81 more than in 2014, with a percentage increase of almost 21%. And pedestrian deaths also increase (+ 3.6%, 204 compared to 197 in 2014).

Cyclists, however, reversed the trend. The number of victims decreased from 99 to 87 with a decrease of 12%. Mortality among the under 30s decreases: 442 victims were registered against 470 in 2014, with a 6% drop.

The times in which the most fatal accidents occur are nighttime ones: during 2015, from 10 to 6, there were 443 fatal accidents were detected (62 more than 2014) with 483 victims (56 more than two years ago), with a percentage increase, respectively, of 16.3% and 13.1%.

It was 15 consecutive years that the number of road accident victims decreased with each data collection. In 2014 there was a setback but now the trend has dramatically reversed.
