According to the latest figures, the new Corona virus has so far infected 12 million and 235 thousand people worldwide, of whom 552 thousand have died, while 6 million and 488 thousand have recovered, which represents 53% of the total infections.

During the last 24 hours, the United States and Brazil set new records. While the President of Bolivia declared her HIV positive, Morocco extended the state of health emergency for an additional month.

On Thursday evening, the United States reported more than 65,500 new infections with the new Corona virus in a record daily toll, according to data published by Johns Hopkins University, a reference point in tracking Covid-19 injuries and deaths.

Johns Hopkins data showed that the total number of people infected with Covid-19 in the country most affected by the epidemic rose to more than 3.1 million people, of whom more than 133,000 died.

The Brazilian catastrophe continues
. For its part, the Brazilian Ministry of Health said today that it has recorded 42,619 new infections with the Corona virus in the past 24 hours and 1,220 deaths.

According to the ministry's data, the total number of people infected with the virus in Brazil has reached more than 1.7 million since the outbreak of the epidemic, while the number of deaths reached 69,184 people.

Brazil ranks second in the world in terms of the number of infections and deaths caused by the emerging Corona virus.

In the same context, the press office of the Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, said Thursday that the president is in good health after he was diagnosed with the Coronavirus.

"The president, who has been diagnosed with Covid-19, is in good condition and is not suffering from complications," the office said in a statement.

"He is in good health and is being monitored regularly by the presidency's medical team," the statement added.

Injury to the President
In Bolivia, President Janini Anies announced that she had tested positive for the emerging coronavirus. She said in a tweet that she is "good" and continues working while in isolation. "Together, we will go beyond that."

The confirmation came a week after Bolivian Health Minister Maria Eddie Roca announced that she was infected with the Corona virus.

Bolivia has recorded more than 42 thousand confirmed cases of the disease and 1500 deaths, and it is one of the most affected countries in the world in terms of mortality from injuries.

Extension of the emergency
In Morocco, the government announced on Thursday the extension of the health emergency for an additional month in the context of its endeavor to address the Covid-19 epidemic.

The health emergency imposed in the Kingdom since March represents a legal framework for taking exceptional measures to address the spread of Covid-19, the most prominent of which was the imposition of a health closure and restriction of movements except in exceptional cases.

But the authorities eased the health shutdown in early June.

The government said in a statement Thursday that the health emergency had been "extended throughout the national territory to cope" with the outbreak, until August 10.

The government is betting on "expanding laboratory analyzes to the maximum extent possible within the productive sectors," according to Health Minister Khaled Ait Talaba this week.

On the other hand, imposing protective masks continues to be subject to penalties for violators.

Six cities are still subject to restrictions due to the emergence of virus hotspots "in workplaces", especially on strawberry farms in the west of the country.

The number of people affected by the epidemic in Morocco reached 15 thousand, of whom 242 died.

Out of control
The World Health Organization announced on Thursday that it is forming an independent committee to review its treatment of the Covid-19 disease pandemic, as well as the dealings of the epidemic, and warned that the pandemic is out of control, at a time when the number of infected people exceeds 12 million people.

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Gebresos said - in a video conference with the 194 members - that the scale of the epidemic that affected almost everyone in the world "deserves an appropriate and impartial assessment."

"We will not be able to overcome the pandemic if we are divided," he added, warning that the "divisions" of the international community are contributing to the continuation of the epidemic.

He explained that the committee will submit an interim report to the annual meeting of health ministers in November, and then submit a "substantive report" next year.

The announcement came in the wake of strong criticism from the administration of US President Donald Trump, who accused the World Health Organization of being "centered around China" and formally notified Tuesday of its withdrawal within a year from the United Nations organization.
