The Paris public prosecutor's office announced Friday that it had appealed from a rapper MHD release order made Tuesday by a judge. Mohamed Sylla, whose real name is, is likely to be released soon.
The self-proclaimed inventor of the “afro-trap”, a mixture of rap and African music, has been in pre-trial detention since January 17, 2019. He is indicted for “intentional homicide” in a case of alleged accounts between rival groups in the northeast of Paris, on the night of July 5 to 6, 2018.

- 20 Minutes (@ 20Minutes) January 18, 2019On Tuesday, a liberty and detention judge (JLD) examined the extension of this pretrial detention for the 26-year-old artist. He issued an order for release under judicial supervision, going against the requisitions of the prosecution, which appealed this decision.
Two scenarios for a release
The mandate of deposit of MHD must end soon, according to a source close to the file, and the musician could be released in two cases: if the hearing at the chamber of instruction of the court of appeal of Paris rejects the request the prosecution of a continued detention, or more simply if this hearing, the date of which was not yet known on Friday, intervened after the scheduled end of the artist's deposition mandate.
In early April, the appeals court had detained MHD, who had tested positive for coronavirus, reversing an ex officio release decision taken by the investigating judge.
