- Now the instructions and figures are clear, states Helsingörs mayor Benedikte Kiaer. Skåne's infection rate of covid-19 is far below those that the authorities require, now finally the Scans can visit us here in Helsingör again. Without reservations.

An exuberant happy mayor stood outside the town hall on Stengade. The message from the Danish authorities that Scans are welcome back to Denmark from Saturday, July 11, was certainly expected but nonetheless awaited.

Hard hit by the border closure

When Denmark closed its border because of the corona pandemic in mid-March, Helsingör and North Zealand were one of the regions that were hit quickly and mercilessly. When the Swedes could not cross the strait, many shops and restaurants became almost entirely devoid of customers.

During the four months that have passed since the closure, some companies have been forced to close down and close down their operations. Others have pretty much come forward. But now Mayor Benedikte Kiaer in Helsingör looks to the future with confidence.

- We have really missed the interaction with our Swedish neighbors and the exchange we have here over northern Öresund. But on Saturday it's a party day. We will offer our guests coffee and pastry, and for the very first, it will surely also be a little Old Danish, says Benedikte Kiaer.
