“We continue to record a cynical violation of international obligations in the field of ensuring media freedom in the Baltic countries, where they are increasingly hiding their obsession with Russophobia and their intention to get rid of the Russian information presence in their media space by any means. We have in mind the attack of the leadership of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on the TV channels of the RT media group. The coordinated nature of this attack is obvious, ”she said during the briefing.

According to her, it is puzzling that none of the EU officials have yet commented on the flagrant violation of freedom of speech and the fight against dissent in the Baltic states.

“We believe that it was Brussels’s unacceptable silence on all the numerous episodes of discrimination against domestic media in the Baltic countries that unleashed the leadership of the latter to such an extent that now they don’t even bother looking for any plausible explanation of their steps, measures regarding the Russian media holding,” noted Zakharova.

She expressed hope that the relevant international structures and the human rights community will respond to these violations.
