The first pylon of the Toulouse urban cable car, in the parking lot of the CHU de Rangueil. - Tisseo Ingenierie

  • The construction of the Toulouse urban cable car is entering its spectacular phase with the erection of the first pylon in the parking lot of the CHU de Rangueil.
  • But by paralyzing the site for two months, the health crisis has stretched the delays.
  • The line is now scheduled to open in summer 2021, at least six months late.

If you frequent the neighborhood or the Rangueil University Hospital, the acrobats, "real mountain people" who "bolt" to 63 meters high, could not escape you. And even less their perch: the very first rather design pylon of Téléo, the Toulouse urban cable car.

This aerial ballet arrives much later than expected due to a health crisis. "The site was completely stopped for two months, and it is not resuming at a normal rate, because the constraints are not the same and that some parts, made in particular in Italy, are late", concedes Francis Grass, the President of Tisséo Engineering.

As expected, Téléo's delivery times are getting longer: while it was due to come into service at the end of 2020, Tisséo is now looking for a start-up "in the summer of 2021, subject to new health hazards".

Drones to pull the cables

The pylon "P4", formed of a rectangular "barrel" which narrows with altitude and then of flared branches, arrived in the Pink City in large pieces. "Since June 22, the sections, some of which can weigh 45 tonnes and measure up to 20 meters in length, have been transported at night by exceptional convoy", before being "lifted" by crane around rods. anchoring and then assembled together, explains Rémi Torres, the Poma company site manager.

It was chosen by Tisséo because its system requires only five pylons on this three-kilometer overhead line, the longest in France in an urban environment, connecting the Rangueil campus to the Oncopôle via the CHU.

"All the pylons will be installed by October," says Vincent Conan, the project manager. In parallel with this spectacular aspect, the construction of stations is progressing, on the hillside at Rangueil hospital or very close to the metro Paul-Sabatier university. And, in the Poma factory, the 15 future cabins are being manufactured.

Episode 2, announced for the fall, promises to be spectacular. It will be the attack of the drones, responsible for pulling the cables.
