The Basque Electoral Board has accepted the "measures" activated by the Health Department to control the outbreak of Covid-19 infections in Ordizia and does not question the holding of the regional elections on Sunday July 12 . The Board has responded in a brief 10-line response to EH Bildu's request to specify what will be done to guarantee health security and the right to vote . The cases of Covid-19 in the outbreak detected in Ordizia already amount to 58 positives , according to the latest data offered by the Health Minister Nekane Murga.

The Basque Electoral Board has limited itself in a brief statement to consider the measures dictated by Health that include the mandatory use of the mask . In addition, it urges the Department of Health to communicate these protection measures to the affected population so that they can vote next Sunday. However, the mayor of Ordizia Adur Ezenarro (EH Bildu) has repeatedly demanded that the elections be postponed due to the increase in the number of infected people since some are part of the electoral tables and many of the 1,000 quarantined residents will not go to vote on next Sunday.

The Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu has recognized today that the outbreak of COVID-19 declared in Ordizia (Gipuzkoa) is "a serious wake-up call " , to which he is "responding with speed and agility", despite which "we cannot go down the guard".

Urkullu made this warning in an electoral event focused on health, organized by his party in Errenteria (Gipuzkoa), and in which he was accompanied by councilors Nekane Murga and Arantza Tapia , and the jeltzale candidate for the presidency of the Basque Parliament , Bakartxo Tejeria, reports Efe.

During his speech, the Lehendakari expressed his condolences to the families of the "more than 1,600 people who died of the coronavirus", while warning that "the risk is still present" , because although "the worst is over "it is still necessary" to continue facing new foci ".

"We have had them in Basurto, Txagorritxu or Orio. We have responded with speed and agility. Now we have it in Ordizia. We are responding," he stressed, before insisting on "individual and collective responsibility" and the need to "maintain the hygiene measures, social distancing and the use of masks ".
