The municipality is now worried about both reduced revenues and increased spending as a result of the pandemic and rising unemployment.

- We are talking about 1000 people who are now unemployed as a result of the pandemic, so the municipality is affected both by lower tax revenues and in the long term by increased costs for support payments, says Mikael Brant-Lundin, head of education and labor market administration in Sigtuna.

The strongest increase since the 1990s

In the municipality, there has been no such sharp increase in unemployment since the crisis in the early 1990s.

"Our most important industries are the aviation and hospitality industry, Arlanda is an incredibly important workplace for the municipality's residents and we have seen a steep curve on unemployment since the pandemic started, an increase of almost 60 percent now," he says.

Hope for an extra contribution from the state

- Sigtuna is clearly and clearly more affected than the average municipality and therefore we should also receive targeted support to help us and our residents, but so far we have not heard of it, Mikael Brant-Lundin, head of education and training labor market management in Sigtuna.
