China News Service, Hangzhou, July 9th (Tong Xiaoyu, Zhang Chi) On July 9, the reporter learned from West Lake University that Zheng Jusheng, the head of the independent research group of the School of Life Sciences, and more than 40 nutritionists from eight European countries After five years of teamwork, the family found that more intake of fruits and vegetables is beneficial for preventing diabetes (specifically, type 2 diabetes).

It is reported that the article was published online in the British Medical Journal on the morning of July 9, Beijing time. The team tested and analyzed blood samples from more than 10,000 new cases of diabetes and more than 13,000 healthy controls. From the perspective of blood nutrition markers, it was concluded that the daily intake of 66g more fruits and vegetables reduced the risk of diabetes by 25%.

During his research work at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, Zheng Jusheng conducted research on nutritional markers of fruits and vegetables and diabetes prevention. After joining West Lake University in 2018, he continued this project through international cooperation.

During the study, they tracked and recorded more than 10,000 cases of diabetes in eight European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Denmark, and compared them with more than 13,000 healthy people.

During the experiment, they recorded seven nutrient indicators including vitamin C and 6 carotenes in the initial blood of the experimental population. It is reported that the more fruits and vegetables ingested, the higher the content of these 7 indicators in the human body.

Through regular measurement and tracking, the team found that the higher the nutritional markers in the body, the lower the risk of diabetes, and it also indicates that more intake of fruits and vegetables can effectively reduce the risk of diabetes.

"To quantify to a specific value, that is, to consume 66g more fruits and vegetables per day, the risk of diabetes will be reduced by 25%." Zheng Jusheng said that the number of participants in this study is large, the experiment time is long, and through a more scientific method The verification results provide valuable suggestions and references for dietary guidance in the field of public health.

In addition, the results of this study emphasize that regardless of the current high or low intake of fruits and vegetables, increasing a certain amount of intake will help subsequent diabetes prevention.

Although it is common sense to consume fruits and vegetables to prevent chronic diseases, most people find it difficult to implement them in their daily lives.

The British Nutrition Society has recommended that it is best to consume 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per person per day, and one serving is around 80g. Zheng Jusheng said that in fact, it is not difficult to consume so many fruits and vegetables a day, one apple can be counted as one, plus one meat and two vegetarian meals in the morning and dinner, it is easy to meet the standard.

For the type of fruits and vegetables, Zheng Jusheng does not particularly recommend it, but regarding the cooking method, he advocates eating natural food.

For example, fruits are eaten directly, try not to juice or process, because a lot of nutrients will be lost during the juice extraction process, and you will inadvertently ingest too much polysaccharide. If the vegetables are not suitable for eating raw, you can cook or fry less.

Zheng Jusheng said that although the research object is limited to Europe, it also has the same guiding significance for the diet of other parts of the world. After finishing this long-term follow-up study, he will also start to carry out research in Asia, especially China, to compare whether there may be differences. (Finish)
