The Home Guard soldier, who is in his 45s, participated in the National Day celebration at Stumholmen two years ago.

"The leg in the thumb is off"

The soldier would load a cannon during the preparation, but squeezed the thumb between the fire pipe and the cannon's locking mechanism. The thumb was broken and the man was allowed to sew six stitches and has had limited mobility in his hand ever since.

He is awarded compensation and receives SEK 60,000 in damages according to a decision of the Chamber of Colleges, which is responsible for personal injury protection for several types of activities linked to government agencies. The soldier receives an additional SEK 5,200 for two months of burning and pain.
