The Dubai Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department recycled 1906 pieces of counterfeit goods for international brands, amounting to more than 188,000 dirhams, to avoid the harmful environmental effects of destroying them, in coordination with trademark owners.

Dubai Customs revealed in a statement issued yesterday - a copy of which was viewed by the Emirates Today - that the counterfeit goods that were recycled included sports shoes produced by major international companies specialized in this field, and headphones for phones and computers.

The statement pointed out that these counterfeit goods were seized in cooperation with the Customs Intelligence Department, after the Department's Special Tasks Section received information stating that there are shipments that contain counterfeit goods for international brands coming from an Asian country.

The statement indicated that shipments were stopped, and the entry of counterfeit goods into the UAE was prevented, and was transferred to the Intellectual Property Dispute Resolution Section of the Department of Intellectual Property Rights Protection, and the goods seized were shown to trademark owners and found to be counterfeit to their trademarks, and thus was confiscated.

The Department of Intellectual Property Rights has recycled counterfeit goods at specialized Kohler Code.

"Recycling results in the transformation of counterfeit goods into materials that can be used in many fields, and in this way we avoid our society from the dangers that it causes, and the environmental damages resulting from damaging it by the traditional ways that harm the environment," said Yusef Uzair Mubarak, director of the Department of Intellectual Property Rights.
