The number of people infected with Coronavirus across the African continent has exceeded 480 thousand, of whom 11,407 have died, while the United States continues to set records of the number of infections, and arms manufacturers are pressing the Pentagon to ensure that billions of dollars are not withdrawn from the Ministry of Defense budget.

Yesterday, Mauritanian state television announced that the government will abolish the curfew that has been in effect since last March to curb the outbreak of the new Corona virus, and will also allow a renewed movement between the country's 13 states.

The television explained that the decision to ease the closures imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19 also includes the re-permitting of domestic flights. To date, Mauritania has officially counted 5,087 people infected with the virus, of whom 139 have died.

In Ghana, the number of new infections with the Coronavirus increased to more than 22,000, after new cases were recorded within the past 24 hours.

This came according to news reported by local newspapers yesterday, Wednesday, and indicated that the total tests conducted throughout the country to detect the virus amounted to more than 320 thousand tests since the outbreak of the virus began.

In the past 24 hours, South Africa recorded 8,810 new infections, bringing the total number of infections to 224,665.

On Wednesday, the Moroccan government announced the reopening of its borders to passenger traffic, starting with the easing of restrictions imposed due to the Corona virus.

"Moroccan citizens, foreign residents of the Kingdom, and their families can enter the national territory from July 14, at midnight, through air and sea crossing points," an official statement said.

As of Thursday dawn, the number of Coronas infected in the world exceeded 12 million and 155 thousand, of whom more than 551 thousand had died, and more than 7 million and 25 thousand had recovered, according to the site "World Meter" specializing in monitoring the developments of the virus.

Record injuries in America

As of yesterday evening, the United States had recorded 55,000 new infections with the emerging coronavirus within 24 hours, according to data published by Johns Hopkins University, a reference point for tracking Covid-19 injuries and deaths.

Johns Hopkins data showed that the total number of people infected with Covid-19 in the country - the worst affected by the epidemic - rose to 3 million and 46 thousand and 51 people, of whom 132,195 people have died, including 833 who died in the past 24 hours.

The United States is - and is vastly different from the rest of the world - the country most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, whether in terms of deaths or injuries.

However, these figures - despite their huge numbers - remain in the eyes of epidemiologists less than the real numbers, and the reason for this is due to the difficulties that were encountered in undergoing laboratory tests during the past March and April.

And with the American President Donald Trump continuing to reduce the seriousness of the epidemic, not to put it a muzzle, to address large gatherings, and to confirm that reaching a vaccine is only months away, and his assertion that "99%" of cases are not serious; Local officials' discontent began to escalate.

Earlier yesterday, Mike Pence, former US Vice President and Johns Hopkins University, announced that the number of people infected with the epidemic in the United States has crossed the threshold of 3 million, less than a month after the death toll in the country exceeded the two million mark.

The Pentagon is pressing

In America, the chief executives of 8 companies working in the military industry - including Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies - have asked the US government to ensure that billions of dollars are not withdrawn from the Pentagon’s budget to support companies damaged by Coffid-19 without providing new money.

And the military industries companies obtained funds from the Ministry of Defense (Pentagon) in order to pay the salaries of highly skilled workers, to prevent them from being laid off or going to other companies that enjoy a better level of financing.

The companies said in two separate letters to the Pentagon and the White House that they would need at least several billion dollars to offset the money spent on supporting the workforce and other corona-related settlements. An analyst estimates that it may take up to $ 15 billion.

This measure aims to keep a ready "workforce" among military industries.

Russia, Germany and China

The Corona Virus Crisis Response Center in Russia said 176 people had died of the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 10,000 and 843.
