“During the two-day protests, the protesters injured 118 police officers who received medical care,” the Serbian Interior Ministry quoted him as saying.

The police director also reported that riots occurred in Belgrade, in Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac.

According to him, great material damage was inflicted both on the property of citizens and on the whole republic.

“Such violence is unacceptable, and the police will take all measures to stop violence on the streets, and violators will be brought before the law,” Rebic said.

Earlier it was reported that the Supreme Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade opened 25 criminal cases against the instigators of unrest in the capital of Serbia.

Serbian Minister of Defense Alexander Vulin called the riots an attempt to start a civil war.

Riots took place in the center of Belgrade on the night of July 8 due to a decision by the Serbian authorities to introduce new quarantine restrictions designed to help combat the coronavirus infection COVID-19.
