This statement was made by US Presidential Adviser on National Security Robert O'Brien.

“In the coming days and weeks, you will see a significant series of measures against China,” he told reporters in the presidential pool.

The adviser added that "Hong Kong will no longer be seen as a separate entity, it will be seen as part of China."

“Hong Kong has been de facto annexed by the PRC, the Communist Party of the PRC, and they are imposing their will on the free democratic people,” RIA Novosti quoted O'Brien as saying.

On June 26, the United States announced that visa sanctions were being imposed against a number of Chinese representatives for their actions against Hong Kong. The measures were provoked by the promotion by the Chinese authorities of new legislation in Hong Kong in the field of national security.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also announced that the US would impose sanctions on Chinese officials responsible for "restricting foreigners' access to Tibet."
