Iran and the Syrian regime have signed an agreement to strengthen military cooperation that includes the development of Syrian air defense systems, while Israel targets Iranian military sites inside Syria.

An Iranian source revealed to Al-Jazeera that this agreement is a strategy for Iran after it targeted its forces in Syria, indicating that the agreement includes military and security cooperation, and Tehran's development of Syrian air defense systems.

The source indicated that the Iranian Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, had been in Syria for days, and discussed there the importance of leaving what he described as illegal foreign forces, and the need to confront Israeli raids.

Bagheri said in a press statement - after his meeting with the Syrian Minister of Defense General Ayoub at the Syrian Ministry of Defense building in Damascus today, Wednesday - "We will strengthen the Syrian air defense systems within the framework of strengthening military relations between the two countries, which strengthens our will and our determination to cooperate in the face of American pressure Unwanted by the peoples of the region. "

Military sites of the Syrian regime and the Iranian forces and their allies have been subjected to dozens of raids and missile strikes by Israeli and other United States aircraft in the vicinity of the capital Damascus, Homs, Hama, and the countryside of Deir Ezzor and Aleppo, during which hundreds of people have been killed and injured by the Iranian forces, their allies, and elements of the Syrian forces.

Iranian anxiety

The director of the Al-Jazeera office in Tehran, Abdul Qadir Fayez, said that the agreement and the visit of Bagheri were expected, because there has been a clear Iranian discomfort some time ago regarding Syrian air defense systems because of the Israeli raids targeting Iranian military sites in Syria.

Fayez pointed out that this step is strategic for Iran, despite the existence of a previous defense agreement, but it was somewhat general, while today's agreement clearly focuses on air defense systems in Syria.

The Iranian source said to the island that Iran with this agreement moves from a daily field partner on the ground to a strategic partner, which means that Iran is taking a step in the Syrian sky open to Israel, especially since the Iranian media criticizes Russia widely that it has opened the atmosphere in front of Israel to tolerate the Iranian presence or sites Syrian.

The Syrian Minister of Defense considered that the relations of his country and Iran are strategic and cannot be sabotaged, saying: "Whoever bets on sabotaging relations between Iran and Syria is a delusion, and he must wake up from his dreams."
