08 July 2020In the center-right a case explodes on Giuseppe Conte's invitation to dialogue. After the renunciation, discussed within the coalition, to participate in the General States of Villa Pamphili, the opposition parties awaited a new convocation by the Prime Minister to Palazzo Chigi. But the fact that the invitation, for tomorrow afternoon, arrived this morning to the leader of Fratelli d'Italia Giorgia Meloni, before Matteo Salvini's League, created some agitation, with the League leader who vented with reporters, saying he has not yet been called and then announcing that he would not go.

In the federal secretary in via Bellerio the email then arrived, then the phone call from the secretariat of Palazzo Chigi. Difficult to organize a meeting from evening to morning, therefore, the answer, agreed by the whole center, including Forza Italia, was to postpone the meeting until next week.

Not without an evident irritation of the premier. "If I were an elector of the League and Brothers of Italy, I am not saying Forza Italia because it seems to me that I have more availability, I would expect my political leader to go to a meeting with the Prime Minister, because he is the Prime Minister of all the Italians, "said Conte, commenting on the 'moves' of the center-right, in a conversation with the reporters, during the visit to Madrid.

During the joint press conference with his Spanish colleague Pedro Sanchez, at lunchtime, Conte had already expressed some impatience with the demands and constant criticism of the opposition. "There is a bit of difficulty in setting up a meeting with the oppositions. It reminds me a little of Nanni Moretti in 'Ecce Bombo': I notice it more if we do it in Chigi or in Villa Pamphili, if we do it institutional or not I am there, the invitations have started and I hope there will be a comparison ", said the Prime Minister.

The position of the center-right
The center-right is therefore ready to meet the Prime Minister next week. The hypothesis of organizing the confrontation already tomorrow - observes opposition sources - is not feasible for the short notice, for commitments already made previously and for the lack of clarity with which Palazzo Chigi has decided to inform the leaders, or at different times. The next few days will also be useful for the premier to send the summary document after the States General, a document that will be the basis for the confrontation with the opposition. The center-right confirms the firm will to illustrate a series of urgent measures to the Government: the situation is increasingly worrying also for the evident decay of the majority on decisive and urgent issues such as those of motorway concessions.
