"Because of the pandemic, more people have applied for jobs than usual, so we have more applicants to choose from, but we also have to hire staffing companies to get trained staff," says Mattias Ask, head of care management in Kalmar Municipality .

Prior to the summer, the municipality has hired seven nurses and slightly fewer nursing staff through staffing companies, in addition to the approximately 300 summer vacancies that are usually employed.

- It is a new part for us, but it is necessary for us to cope with summer staffing, he says.

But increased sick leave among staff, as a result of the corona pandemic, means that even though summer staffing is not completely clear.

"The staffing situation is under control, but we will have to work actively with recruitment all summer, that is the challenge for us," says Mattias Ask.

Should not affect the quality of care

- We train our vacation vacations and give a good introduction to staff who come from staffing companies. So we expect that we will be able to deliver good quality even if it is staffing staff, says Mattias Ask.

Will this mean a greater rotation of staff?

- No, we work with the working methods as usual. We minimize the number of staff who go to different carers, we have been working on this for a long time in the municipality and that way of working remains in place during the summer, he says.
