According to the preliminary monthly statistics for May from Tillväxtverket, published earlier this week, hotels lost the largest share of guest nights by 72 percent. At least the commercial campsites dropped by 20 percent, compared to the same month last year.

In total, camping accounted for 46 percent of guest nights in May, or a total of about 1.1 million nights. The total accommodation income for camping, was measured at just over SEK 108 million, a decrease of 24 percent compared to May the year before.

Gotland lost big

Distributed across the counties, Stockholm County, followed by Gotland County, accounted for the largest relative reduction in guest nights in May 2020 compared with May 2019. In Gotland, the number of guest nights decreased by about 66 percent.
