If mountain dramas have been numerous for a month in the Alps, the Mont-Blanc massif has just experienced its first death in summer. A 65-year-old mountaineer died on Wednesday noon after falling 500 meters. According to the mountain rescue services responsible for the investigation, he made a technical error when he had just climbed Mont-Blanc in good conditions, in the company of three other mountaineers.

The victim was at 3,400 m above sea level, descending on the normal route, when he unscrewed shortly after noon. According to the first elements of the investigation, the sixty-something man "slipped on a patch of snow of one square meter remained on the track before falling on his back", as specified by the platoon of gendarmerie of high mountain (PGHM) of Chamonix, confirming information from the Dauphiné Libéré .

The four mountaineers were evolving in two separate ropes and that of the victim would probably have chosen shortly before the accident to untie themselves "due to less technical terrain", added the PGHM of Chamonix. Unharmed, the victim's companion, shocked and disoriented by the accident, was hoisted to Chamonix to be taken care of.
