When the Public Health Agency announced in early May that it was soon free to travel in Sweden, there were immediately numerous bookings for Scanian campsites and holiday rentals.

- It completely exploded, says Torbjörn Fredman, CEO of the Novasol cottage agency with 600 cottages in Skåne.

A lot of guests arrive this summer also for the first time in motorhomes or in caravans, says Nikki Karlsen at Tobisvik's campsite.

- They often tell us that a holiday abroad was planned, but when it was canceled they thought about it. "We should have been in Spain now, but now we are here" is a common phrase.

Thank you no to guests

But far from everyone can fit. The cabins at Tobisvik are fully booked in July and at Hotel Svea in Simrishamn you can thank guests every day, says receptionist Sylvia Franzén.

- Right now we would have needed 120 rooms instead of 60.

The Germans, however, have not booked cottages to the same extent as last summer, says Torbjörn Fredman, CEO of the cottage company Novasol.

- But from Sweden we have five times more bookings at cottages in Skåne compared to last year.

More looking for summer houses

The real estate brokers in Simrishamn also notice a sharp increase in demand.

- We have three times more visitors to some objects compared to last summer, says Marcus Ekström, broker. Sometimes 50-60 people come on a show. We actually have problems, we have to extend the views and show digitally to a greater extent.
